March 31, 2016

With the 2016 AGM only 1 week away, everyone here at Beneplan is excited to introduce this years nominees to our Board of Directors.D. Lee Brown - WinmarI would like to serve on the Board of Director for Co operative Corp to assist in the decision making of the Corp.I am currently Controller for Winmar Toronto Brampton and a CPA, CGA and also a Chartered Certified Accountant of UK. I have approximately fifteen years of experience in Accounting and public accounting. Post Certified I worked as Assistant Manager/Supervisor for Deloitte & Touche for four years.

I look forward to working with the other board members to impact the stategic decision of the Co op.

Shelley Sheppard - Evanov Radio GroupI have always searched for new challenges throughout my career and I believe that a position on a Board would offer a new experience and continued learning for me. I believe strongly in the importance of a Board to help management maximize their performance and to provide transparency. My career has spanned both small and large private and public companies which has offered me a wealth of experience. I would very much like to share those skills with the Co-operative as I have developed very strong communication, negotiation and problem solving expertise.

Most accountants are very detailed and can be black and white but I've become a true change person and leader over the past 30 years. I truly believe that I can make a very positive impact on the Board in a very short time. Thanks for your consideration.

Ian Torrance - P.K. Douglass IncAs Vice President and partner in an importing business, one of my roles is to manage Employee benefits, as well as a myriad of duties. I feel I have a aptitude for understanding the issues in Health benefits, as well as a feel for the employee viewpoint and impact. Our company (about 45 employees) has had to deal with several difficult cases in this area that has shaped our present Plan, and partnering with Beneplan. Also, my spouse has 30+ years in casualty and property insurance, and while different, gives me insight into the insurance company mindset and approach to risk.

I feel I can add an objective opinion and insight as a member of the Beneplan board.

Malcolm Stoffman - Momentum Credit UnionI am pleased to be considered for a Board of Director’s position in this dynamic and innovative and important organization and I bring a wealth of qualifications and experience to the role of a Director. I have a post graduate degree in Cooperative Management and Organizational Behaviour (MA, University of Leicester) and am in the process of completing a second post graduate degree, in Law (LLM, Osgoode Hall, York University) with a specialization in Banking and Financial Services. Through my executive leadership and governance experience at both provincially and federally regulated financial institutions, I have a deep understanding of both sides of the governance equation (management and oversight) and of the changing governance best practices and the ever more demanding regulatory environment that is shaping the insurance and broader financial services industry.I am the President and CEO of Momentum Credit Union and through that role I have hands on experience and a deep understanding the importance of key business partnerships and by offering cost effective solutions to both staff and members. I have strong financial acumen and a deep passion for technology. I have lead major technological change initiatives including the conversions from two core banking systems to one new system and two accounting system conversions. I understand the risks associated with the undertaking of such initiatives and of equal importance the risks associated with not taking the steps necessary to evolve mission critical technologies. An excellent communicator, I have led marketing, business development and communication teams and have delivered award winning results for engagement, innovation and corporate communications. I have developed compelling visions that have enabled the design and execution of long-term strategic plans and I have navigated the operational, legal and regulatory environments to facilitate growth through mergers and acquisitions.

I have served the Boards of some of Canada’s largest financial Cooperatives including Credit Union Central of Ontario and of Central 1 Credit Union where I was a member of the governance, HR and Compensation committee and chair of the Nominating Committee. I was actively involved in the oversight of the merger of Credit Union Central of BC and Credit Union Central of Ontario that created Central 1 Credit Union and a member of the team that developed the solution that allowed Ontario’s Credit Unions to strategically divest the organizations holding of asset backed commercial paper and to restructure those holding to the eventual benefit of the member/shareholders. Both Credit Union Central of Ontario and Central 1 Credit Union were provincially regulated but had federal oversight.

Currently, I am in my third term of service to Concentra Financial Services Association and Concentra Trust, where I am currently the Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committees. I chaired the Conduct Review committee for five years and am a member of the Stakeholder Relations Committee and the HR Committee. Additionally, I was appointed by my fellow directors as the Board’s spokesperson to OSFI and FINTRAC. Concentra Financial and Trust are federally regulated by OSFI and have been widely recognized for excellence as Platinum Member of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

It would be my distinct pleasure to share my knowledge and experience with Beneplan members in order to support the on ongoing development of this unique organization.

Soo Kim Lee - Rowe Farm MeatsCost of benefits have increased significantly over the years. I believe that it is important to provide good health benefits to our employees and joining this co-operative will enable us to provide better benefits while maintaining the cost. To insure the success of the co-operative, I feel it is each members role to make sure it is adequately funded and managed.

My over 20 years experience in financial management, in big and small companies, gives me the right qualifications and perspectives.

Joe Guerrieri - St. Andrews InsuranceProud to live in Woodbridge with my beautiful wife and two very fine teenage boys. I love the outdoors and enjoy spending relaxing time with my many friends and family.
