Nominations for 2015/6 Board of Directors

Members of the Beneplan Co-operative will have an opportunity to vote for new board members at the Beneplan Annual General Meeting on April 15th, 2015, in Mississauga, Ontario.FSCO prevents co-operatives from allowing proxy voting for this purpose, so this serves as a general notice of the candidates. There are 4 vacant board positions and 5 candidates.Nominated Board CandidatesMichael Miller CGA, COO Hyd-Mech Group. Member Since 2009. Former Beneplan Board Member and Committee Member.I am the COO of Hyd-Mech Group Limited which is a world leader in the designing and building of metal cutting ban-saws. I have been involved with Beneplan in various capacities over the past 8 years. Most notably, I was assistant chair of the transition group responsible for the creation of the Board structure we have today. Following which I served on the Board that created the co-operative entity we currently operator under. I was my pleasure to help re-structure our organization to ensure efficient growth and to support new ventures/opportunities to save members money. Much work is still to do. I would be pleased to represent your interest as a Beneplan Board Member for the next three years.Anne Kauffman CPA CGA, Managing Director, Davies Howe Partners LLP. Member since 2014. Anne was previously the Controller at Goodmans LLP and Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP.I am a fan of the co-operative model and am interested in its continued success. Affordable plans ensure improved health care is available to a wider group of employees. I am a chartered professional accountant (CPA CGA) and have worked in the legal industry for about 15 years. My current role is Managing Director (since 2012). I've always wanted to serve on a board and believe my skills and experience make me a good candidate for this role. In addition to my financial training and managerial experience, I would bring practical, and at times creative, thinking to the table.Bogdan Baliuc CEO, Obero Inc. Member since 2014.I have entrepreneurial spirit and attention to detail, as demonstrated in the past 4 years building a $6 mil business from nothing. I can also bring a fresh eye to the business. From my perspective, it would be an opportunity to learn about a business I know little about.Diana Kocet ACUIC, AMP, CEO The Energy Credit Union. Member since 2014.I am currently the CEO of a cooperative - The Energy Credit Union. I trust and believe that my 30+ years’ experience in the cooperative sector enables me to make valuable contributions that would continue to make a positive impact on the communities that we serve. My qualifications include, Accredited Credit Union Institute of Canada (ACUIC) designation, B.A. and AMP. My long-serving career has garnered extensive experience in the financial services industry, covering a broad range of departments. In 2008, I was honoured with the Credit Union Professional’s Association Professional of the Year Award in recognition of outstanding professional leadership and service to the credit union system and our community. In March 2009 I as awarded the prestigious Allan Lanctot Mentorship Award by Central 1 and under my direction The Energy Credit Union was awarded an esteemed Golden Mirror Award from CUES for best website in the same year. My cooperative efforts have also been recognized by The Ontario Co-operative Association and in November 2009 I received the Cooperative Innovation Award. All Spirit Award recipients enter the Co-operative Spirit hall of fame. In 2012, I served on Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario (DICO) advisory panel for Director Training and Education. In September 2009 I was elected to the Ontario Credit Union Managers Association of Directors (CUMA) and in September 2012 I was re-elected for another three year term which comes up in Sept 2015.I enjoy collaboration, learning, innovative leadership and would be honoured to achieve new heights by being considered for the Beneplan Co-operative Board of Directors.Ken Singh, CEO of Atlas International Freight Forwarding Inc. Member since 2014.I am President and CEO of Atlas Cargo and CCB since 1986. I have served on the board of York University, have been ambassador for Fundraising for the Brampton Civic Hospital, and now the new Humber River Hospital. I feel my expertise can be useful for Beneplan. As well as imparting knowledge, it will be a reciprocal experience for me.Linda Moroz, CEO of Resurrection Credit Union Ltd. Member since 2004.I am the CEO of Resurrection Credit Union and have held this post for 5 years. During my tenure I have helped to bring about a more efficient way in doing business and a more professional approach with our staff and membership. I have dealt with Corporate Governance and Enterprise Risk Management initiatives at our credit union along with drafting our revised By-laws. Our net income has increased year over year in the last five years, the efficiency ratio has improved and assets have grown.I believe that I have the qualifications to make me an effective and contributing Board Member for Beneplan.
